Makeup Expiration Dates

Today I did some spring cleaning and went through all my makeup and threw out all the old expired products.

Yes makeup does expire, and there are ways you can tell if your products have gone bad.

First of all, on most of the packaging or the actual product itself, there is a picture of a little open jar that will say either 2m, 3m, 6m, etc. the number and the m means however many months that this product is good for.

Another way of telling is when your makeup starts to develop an odour or has a separation or change in texture.

Liquid foundations and concealers have a shelf life of 6-12 months. If it has separated into layers or the colour has lightened, throw it out!

Lipsticks and gloss - shelf life for lipsticks is 2 years, 1 year for gloss.

Brow pencils have a shelf life of 6-8 months.

Eyeliners have a shelf life of up to 1 year.

Mascaras have a shelf life of 2-3 months  (note, do not share mascara! Huge no no. Eye infections are caused by sharing mascaras) once it gets clumpy or starts to smell weird, throw it out!

Liquid eyeliners have a shelf life of 6 months.

Blush and powders have a shelf life of 2 years.

Eye shadows have a shelf life of 2 years.

Gel liners have a shelf life of 6 months.

Primers have a shelf life of 6 months.

Skin care products have a shelf life of up to 6-10 months.

Fragrances are the longest lasting beauty products. Shelf life is 8-10 years.

Abiding by makeup expiration dates is very important. Makeup traps bacteria, and using it past the expiration date may cause skin irritation, breakouts, eye infections, and even styes.

Always remember to go through your makeup every once in awhile and throw out items that are past their expiration date!

Skin Care Routine

I have struggled immensely over the years trying to find a good cleanser for my skin. I have used many different cleansers but there are very few that have actually worked well for me.

I have normal to combination skin. I do get breakouts the odd time around my cheeks, forehead and nose. whenever I breakout, I immediately turn to cleansers that have salicylic acid in it in hopes that it will solve the problem. Of course it does help with the breakouts, but after using it a few times it makes my skin feel tight and very dry.

A while back I purchased the Clarisonic Mia 2.... Omg life changer! Seriously. Yes, it is expensive, I am usually very hesitant when it comes to making big purchases on things like that, especially when I don't really know if it works well or not, but I am so glad I bought it. It did amazing things to my skin in less than a week. It was not only the Clarisonic Mia 2 that helped my skin but it was the amazing trial size cleanser that came along with it! The Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel. Boscia is one of the worlds first preservative-free, botanically-based skincare lines. This cleanser, unlike the other cleansers I have been using, has no salicylic acid in it, but still managed to get rid of my breakouts. It cleared up my skin without stripping the moisture from my face and after every use my face was super soft. I used that cleanser along with my Mia 2 for about 6 months. Like I said, I noticed results immediately and my skin only got better from there. My skin has cleared up so much and is so soft and smooth that now I don't feel like I need to wear foundation all the time. I'm actually comfortable to go out in public with just a little blush and mascara on!  Sadly, I have ran out of this amazing cleanser and have not yet purchased another because well... Im a student. So now I am currently using Vichy Normaderm cleanser... An old bottle I found under my bathroom sink that I did not know I had. Yes it does have salicylic acid in it and yes, now I am dealing with major dry skin probs. But this dry skin problem has got to go so I think it's time to buy the full size of the wonderful Boscia cleanser because it is worth the money and it lasts for a very long time. A little goes a long way.

Seriously, with the Mia 2 and the Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel I can almost guarantee that you will notice a difference in your skin.

(note I only use my Clarisonic Mia 2 once a day, at night before bed)

After washing my face I use an ultra repair face moisturizer by First Aid Beauty. I have never even heard about this brand before, but they had it on sale at Sephora and I was in need of a moisturizer so I decided to give it a try. At first I thought it was going to be too intense of a moisturizer, and was worried that it might make my skin look and feel greasy, but I was wrong. I absolutely love this moisturizer. It is very hydrating but isnt greasy feeling. It has a velvety soft finish to it. It really helps get rid of any dry patches I have on my face. I bought it about 5 months ago and there is still a lot  left in the bottle! I will most definitely buy it again after it runs out.

The Clarisonic Mia 2, Vichy Normaderm cleanser (soon to be the Boscia Tsubaki cleanser) and the First Aid Beauty moisturizer, are the only things I am currently using for my skin care routine. I don't like using too many products on my face, I find I break out when I use multiple things. But what works for me may not work for you, but it is worth a shot!
